GENERATIVE AI POLICY
Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
The Journal of Learners, Education, and Development (JLEAD) recognizes the growing use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic writing, research, and scholarly publishing. This policy establishes principles for the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI tools by authors, reviewers, and editors. JLEAD is committed to maintaining academic integrity, protecting the originality of scholarly work, and ensuring that human judgment remains central to the publication process.
Policy Stakeholders and Workflow
▼ For Authors
Authors may use AI tools to support language editing, grammar checking, translation, and other limited writing-related tasks. However, AI tools must not replace the authors' intellectual contribution, critical thinking, interpretation, or responsibility for the research.
Authors must carefully verify all AI-generated content, including references, citations, facts, data, and interpretations. Fabricated references, inaccurate information, plagiarism, and misleading representations of research findings are unacceptable.
Any substantive use of generative AI in preparing a manuscript must be transparently disclosed in accordance with the journal's submission requirements. AI tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the work.
▼ For Reviewers
Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts throughout the peer-review process. Manuscripts, unpublished findings, personal information, and confidential editorial communications must not be uploaded to public AI tools or other external systems that may compromise confidentiality.
Reviewers remain responsible for the accuracy, fairness, originality, and scholarly quality of their evaluations. AI tools must not replace independent expert judgment or be used in ways that compromise the confidentiality and integrity of peer review.
▼ For Editors
Editors may use AI-assisted tools for limited administrative or technical tasks, such as language support and manuscript organization, provided that such use does not compromise confidentiality, impartiality, or editorial independence.
Editorial decisions must be based on scholarly merit, relevance, originality, research quality, and the journal's publication standards. Editors remain accountable for decisions and must protect confidential manuscript information throughout the editorial process.
▼ Publication Process
All submissions are subject to the journal's standard editorial screening and peer-review procedures. The use of AI does not exempt authors from requirements concerning originality, proper citation, research ethics, and the accuracy of submitted content.
Suspected misuse of AI, undisclosed substantive AI assistance, fabricated references, or other breaches of publication ethics may be investigated by the editorial team. Where necessary, the journal may request clarification or revision and take appropriate action in accordance with its publication ethics policies.
Editorial Responsibility. Authors, reviewers, and editors remain fully responsible for their respective contributions and decisions. The use of AI must always be consistent with academic integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and responsible scholarly publishing.
