1. GENERAL INFORMATION

The Journal of Social, Culture, and Language (JSCL) is a scientific journal published by Jurusan Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Budaya, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Ilmu Budaya, Universitas Trunojoyo Madura. The journal focuses on research and scholarly works in the fields of Social Sciences, Culture, and Language.

Authors are required to follow the formatting guidelines and use the provided template when preparing their manuscripts for submission.

• Line Spacing: 1.5 (for body text)
• Paragraph Spacing: 0 pt before and after paragraphs
• Paragraph Indentation: First line of each paragraph is indented 1.27 cm (0.5 inch)

3. STRUCTURE OF THE MANUSCRIPT

3.1 Title

The title should be concise, informative, and reflect the content of the study. It is written in bold, centered, using Times New Roman 14 pt, with capitalized words.

Example:

Gothic Language Style in Demian Novel by Hermann Hesse: Stylistic Approach

3.2 Author Name(s)

Author names are written without academic titles, centered, using Times New Roman 12 pt. For multiple authors, separate names with commas and use an asterisk (*) to indicate the corresponding author.

Format:

• Full name (First Name Last Name)
• No academic titles (e.g., Dr., Prof.)
• Asterisk (*) for corresponding author

Mega Styarini
Erika Citra Sari Hartanto*

3.3 Affiliation and Email

Affiliation includes the university/institution name, country, and ORCID ID (if available). The corresponding author's email is provided for correspondence.

Format:

• Institution Name, City, Country
• Email address
• Times New Roman 10 pt, centered, italic

Example:

Universitas Trunojoyo Madura, Indonesia

3.4 Abstract

The abstract is written in English and Indonesian (Abstrak). It provides a concise summary of the study.

English Abstract:

• Title: "Abstract" (Times New Roman 12 pt, bold, centered)
• Body: Times New Roman 10 pt, justified, italic
• Content: Research objectives, methods, key findings, and conclusions
• Length: 150–250 words

Indonesian Abstract (Abstrak):

• Title: "Abstrak" (Times New Roman 12 pt, bold, centered)
• Body: Times New Roman 10 pt, justified, italic
• Content: Translates the English abstract
• Length: 150–250 words

3.5 Keywords

Keywords follow the abstract and are written in italic using Times New Roman 10 pt. Provide 3–5 keywords or phrases relevant to the study.

Example:

Keywords: Gothic, Demian, Stylistic Approach
Kata kunci: Gotik, Demian, Pendekatan Stilistika

3.6 Date of Submission and Acceptance

Include the dates of article submission, revision, and acceptance. These are placed below the author's email.

Format:

Received [Date]; Revised [Date]; Accepted [Date]

Example:

Received 2 April 2023; Revised 30 April 2023; Accepted 1 May 2023

4. MANUSCRIPT SECTIONS

4.1 Introduction

The introduction section (Times New Roman 12 pt, bold, left-aligned) should contain:

• Background and context of the study
• Review of relevant literature
• Identification of the research gap or problem
• Research objectives and significance
• Theoretical framework (if applicable)

Length: Approximately 500–1,000 words

4.2 Method

The method section (Times New Roman 12 pt, bold, left-aligned) describes:

• Research design and approach (e.g., qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods)
• Data sources and materials
• Data collection techniques (e.g., interviews, observations, close reading, questionnaires)
• Data analysis procedures
• Validity and reliability measures (if applicable)

Structure:

• Clear description of each step
• Justification for chosen methods
• Times New Roman 12 pt, justified

4.3 Findings and Discussion

This section may be titled "Findings and Discussion" or separated into "Results" and "Discussion."

Findings (Results):

• Presentation of data, findings, or results
• May include tables, figures, or excerpts (with proper citation)
• Objective presentation without interpretation

Discussion:

• Interpretation of findings
• Comparison with previous studies
• Implications of the findings
• Limitations and suggestions for future research

Sub-sections: Use bold italic for sub-section headings.

4.4 Conclusion

The conclusion section (Times New Roman 12 pt, bold, left-aligned) should:

• Summarize the main findings
• State the significance or contribution of the study
• Address the research objectives
• Provide recommendations or suggestions for future research

Note: The conclusion should not introduce new information or data.

4.5 References

References follow the APA 6th Edition citation style.

Key Rules:

• Title: "REFERENCES" (Times New Roman 12 pt, bold, left-aligned)
• Body: Times New Roman 10 pt, justified
• Alphabetical order by author's last name
• Hanging indent for each reference entry
• Use a reference management software (Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote)

Reference Composition Requirements:

• 80% primary sources (e.g., journal articles, conference proceedings, research reports)
• Published within the last 10 years (exceptions allowed for seminal works)
• Include DOIs where available

• Use author-date format: (Author, Year) or Author (Year)
• For direct quotations: (Author, Year, p. Page Number)

5. REFERENCE MANAGEMENT

Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software to ensure consistent and correct citation formatting:

• Mendeley
• Zotero
• EndNote

These tools facilitate:

• Automated formatting of citations and reference lists
• Managing and organizing references
• Collaboration with co-authors

6. ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES

6.1 Tables and Figures

• Tables and figures should be placed within the text, close to where they are first cited
• Number tables and figures sequentially (Table 1, Table 2, Figure 1, etc.)
• Provide a clear title for each table or figure
• Sources must be cited beneath tables or figures
• Times New Roman 10 pt for table/figure content
• Short quotations (fewer than 40 words): Integrated into the text with quotation marks
• Long quotations (40 words or more): Indented 1.27 cm, without quotation marks, Times New Roman 10 pt, single-spaced

6.2 Quotations

6.3 Abbreviations and Acronyms

Define abbreviations and acronyms upon first use in the text (e.g., "Journal of Social, Culture, and Language (JSCL)").

6.4 Language

Manuscripts should be written in clear, standard English or Indonesian (consistent throughout). Authors are advised to have their manuscripts proofread by a native speaker or professional editor.

6.5 Originality and Plagiarism

All submitted manuscripts undergo a plagiarism check using Turnitin software. Manuscripts with plagiarism indications will be rejected. Authors must submit a signed statement confirming the article is free of plagiarism.

6.6 Publication Ethics

Authors are required to adhere to ethical standards in publishing, including:

• Originality of work
• Proper citation of sources
• No simultaneous submission to multiple journals
• Disclosure of conflicts of interest

7. SUBMISSION CHECKLIST

Before submitting your manuscript, ensure the following:

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

To be considered for publication in the Journal of Social, Culture, and Language, authors must complete all stages of the journal's review and publication process. By submitting a manuscript, authors acknowledge and agree to the following terms:

1. Copyright and Publishing Rights
Upon acceptance for publication, authors agree to transfer the copyright of the published article to the Journal of Social, Culture, and Language, Universitas Trunojoyo Madura, as the publisher. This transfer grants the journal the right to reproduce, publish, distribute, archive, and communicate the article in various formats and media, including printed copies, reprints, electronic media, translations, and other forms of reproduction.

2. Authors' Rights and Dissemination

If the paper is accepted for publication, the authors will be required to pay the fee. Accepted manuscripts will not proceed to the final production stage until payment has been received.
