Culture Meaning Puji-Pujian (Pujen) Bagi Umat Islam Di Kabupaten Lamongan

Abstract

This article will explain the cultural meaning of praise (pujen) for Muslims in Lamongan Regency. The theoretical basis used is the theory of poetry structure and ethnolinguistics which examine the language system from a cultural perspective. The approach used is a qualitative approach while the methods used in data collection are the listening and speaking techniques (interviews). The results show that the culture of praise (pujen) has functions as prayer, as advice for ourselves or others, as a reminder to do good, as a reminder of death, as a means to invite people to pray together, as a means to spread Islamic teachings, and as a means to wait for the imam and congregation who have not yet arrived as well.
