Abstract

ABSTRACT

Banggai cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) has been introduced and has spread around Bokori Island, Southeast Sulawesi. This study aims to determine the population of P. kauderni in the waters of Bokori Island from the aspect of density, body length distribution, and microhabitat. This study used the belt transect method at three observation stations, with three replications for each station to observe of the fish population’s density. Overall, fish density is in the range of 13.67±1.53 individuals/100 m2 to 36.67±4.62 individuals/100 m2. The distribution of fish body size (Total Length/TL) that is observed varies moderately, ranging from 0.5 cm to 5.5 cm. Microhabitat preferences that are associated with fish include sea anemones (57.3%), coral Millepora (28.5%), and sea urchins Diadema (14.2%). Despite the presence of other fish species in the same microhabitat, P. kauderni coexists with other fish species peacefully.
